New Steed in the Stable

Pulled the trigger on replacing Da'mit the KLR for pulling the sidecar around, bringing in a 2016 KLR650

Fresh out of the barn and stretching its legs today. Went from zero yesterday to a laid back 120 miles today breaking in the engine... slowly and properly. Am keeping it under 4000 rpm for the first 600 miles. After she reaches 1000 miles, we'll move everything from Da'mit over to the new Hoss.

Color is Urban Camo, a digital mottled grey.

Doesn't have a name yet, any suggestions? Was thinking along the liners of Grey Ghost, Grey Phantom, Corcel Vago or ......

  1. Brand new KLR650? That's quite the decision from your last posting....I like Gray Ghost

  2. Why a new KLR over the one that you had and know pretty well?

  3. Three days after the Sunday ride, Da'mit starting making strange noises in the engine compartment that even my loving non-mechanical wife reacted by saying: "That doesn't sound good!"

On her firm order, I went and bought a new one. SWMBO......

    1. You married a very smart woman! Am sure you can keep the old one as spare or parts?

    2. Might just keep Da'mit for two wheel riding. Grey Ghost, eh?

    3. Well, it's a new KLR so "old gray mate" wouldn't quite fit :)

    4. More like a Dobbin, not a Nag...

    5. Had to look up dobbin.... :) Can you tell I'm not a horse person?

Looked up the specs, 6 gallon tank will come in handy though I'm sure why the chain drive is called sealed chain, it seems exposed to me. A truly sealed chained drive would probably last a very long time, though adjusting it would be a pain I image.

  4. Dobbin, more of an old mid-western term, as in the horse that pulled the milk wagon through the neighborhood.

6 gallons in the main tank plus the five more on the sidecar should give a 300 mile plus range.

Sealed chain??? You're right, not sealed at all. Is a regular o-ring chain, or might be an X-ring.
