Claude at Freedom Sidecar asked for more photos of the break which unfortunately I didn't take more before the patch weld.

Am very glad you spotted the anti-sway bar and the swing arm resting on each other. Thank you!!!! That might have contributed to the failure by adding more stress to the cross member when I hit the pothole. For all we know at this point, the frame may have been cracked for awhile and finally snapped off from the constant pounding of the Haul Road. Will know more when I remove the camper tub. Then we can get inspect the crack before repairing.

Right now the sidecamper is at the back of the line, resting while I work on the KLR rig, preparing it for the upcoming ride in South America the first of the year.CCjonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16417345400369951250noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8208027712659472082.post-64997651646308566322018-09-26T18:26:28.253-05:002018-09-26T18:26:28.253-05:00Adventure is what you are looking for. Have you sent a picture to Freedom Sidecars and asked what they think?RichardMhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04773834892715980735noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8208027712659472082.post-56918080699845416942018-09-24T22:22:35.271-05:002018-09-24T22:22:35.271-05:00Adventure is what happens when the unexpected kick...Adventure is what happens when the unexpected kicks down your door. The welder put a half pipe on top and two straps on the bottom side. Even with the tire off, was difficult to work under the edge of the tub. The patch held until we got home. Here I can remove the tub and get a proper repair.

The noise returned after a coupe of days. Sprayed chain lube and the noise disappears. I think it is chain slap. The auto oiler I showed you in Denver, was damaged several days before the noise started. After applying lube, the noise disappears for several days, then comes back. I tend to run the chain slack because of the heavy weight on the rear of the rig plus for the frost heaves up north. Congrats to Nestor on achieving Deadhorse and his goal! Your pics on the way to Haines reminded me how truly beautiful a road it is to ride through.....

Did that noise that caused you to spend a couple of days with Mickey ever resurface?

Couldn't really tell from the photo of the break....but would say a clamp-on bracket, have helped? Something to hold the two pieces together for example....not that there was that option anyways.

redlegsrideshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10927757855921321097noreply@blogger.com
